Joining the Giants midway through the 2002-3 season, Steve Thornton was the catalyst of a major change in Giants fortunes. With the team meandering along mid table, Thornton sparked a run that had us finish second only one point behind Sheffield and finishing 5th in the European Continental Cup in Lugano and Milan.
But his real impact was in the winning of the playoffs where he struck up an awesome partnership with Karlander and Kuwabarra that took us to the title.
After seasons in Sweden, Austria, Switzerland and Basingstoke, Thornton becomes the 5th coach in the 9 year history of the Giants returning as a player coach for 2008-9.
