Halloween came to the Odyssey, but it was the visitors who got the wind up their kilts, as the Belfast Giants stormed to a 6-0 victory over the Dundee Stars.
The Giants had the majority of the first period to themselves with a bit of the old style 'sexy' hockey (for those who can remember)on display. George Awada got the opener in the eighth, and for all his threatening, Curt Bowen deservedly got the second before the break after firing close on several occasions.
Curt Bowen continued where he left off and netted Belfast's third, midway through the second period, while a resurgent Dundee mixed it up with the Elite League leaders and kept up the pressure on Martin Klempa between the Belfast pipes, forcing some great saves.
The men in stripes had a quiet game up until the 39th minute, but the Stars failed to convert that and three subsequent powerplays during the final period. Belfast captain, Shane Johnson punished the visitors with a short-handed effort and Giants fourth goal, and Curtis Huppe got his first Giants' home goal (and his second against Dundee this season) to make it 5-0. Freddy Nasvall closed the coffin lid and made it 6-0 with six minutes to go.
Good to see so many Dundee fans at the Odyssey, who continued to get behind their team right until the end - hope you enjoyed the trip, and we'll hopefully see you over here again soon!
