Sheffield Shutout!
12-Sep-2004It was a great start to the Giants season as they took both points tonight in Sheffield
The game was not the usual firecracker between these teams due to series of penalties on both sides which meant that for most of the first period, there was at least one player serving a penalty
The Giants first goal came in the second period at 27.18, with a combination of old and new, with George Awada getting the goal from a Todd Kelman pass. The Giants second goal was a combination of old and young this time, with newcomer Fredrick Nasvall scoring from Tony Hand. The Giants third goal came in the third period with less than six minutes left on the clock and was a wicked slapshot from Curt Bowen, with assists going to Kelman and Awada.
It was also the perfect start for Marty Klempa who was called upon to make a number of saves but was never really pressured.
While a win in Sheffield is always to be welcomed, it should be noted that they were missing a number of players and even called up a fifteen year old youth player to swell their ranks. There is no doubt that the Sheffield team will be vastly different in a couple of weeks time when they travel to the Odyssey.
