3 Locals Return to Giants
04-Aug-2004Last night the Belfast Giants held an open training session to give local players a chance to impress new coach Tony Hand. The coach was reported as being very pleased with what he saw and after the training session the Giants confirmed the re-signing of local players Chris McGimpsey, Mark Morrison & Graeme Walton.However, the surprise star of the evening was Canadian Diarmuid Kelly who had travelled over from Alberta especially for the training session after his father, who is originally from Derry, spotted the details of the session on the Internet.
Kelly is reported to have had private talks with Tony Hand after the training session and it is widely expected that a contract will be offered to the 22 year-old Canadian.
The Giants have not ruled out further signings from those who attended the training session, which included Mark Morrison's 2 brothers.
Gareth Martin, the Giants' other local player last season, is currently out of the country but will have a chance to impress the new coach when he returns.
