With the regular season now over the Harp Lager Belfast Giants look to defend their crown as UK Ice Hockeys Playoff Champions. Some would say the "True Championship of UK Hockey".
Last season, in only their first visit to the Playoff Finals weekend, Dave Whistle and Paul Kruse led their team to a magnificent, be it nail-biting, win over the then, and current, league champions Sheffield Steelers in the semi-final. Before lifting the trophy with a commanding 5-3 win over the London Knights. Shane Johnson was the hero that day with two great goals and no doubt he is hoping this Giants side can repeat this feat. But first they must qualify.
The playoff fixtures for the group containing the Belfast Giants have been announced and are as follows:
Group A
| Saturday | 20th March | Sheffield v Belfast | 7pm |
| Sunday | 21st March | Manchester v Belfast | 5pm |
| Thursday | 25th March | Manchester v Sheffield | 8pm |
| Friday | 26th March | Belfast v Sheffield | 7pm |
| Saturday | 27th March | Belfast v Manchester | 7pm |
| Sunday | 28th March | Sheffield v Manchester | 6pm |
The top two teams from each of the playoff qualifying groups (Group B containing Cardiff Coventry and Nottingham), will meet in Nottinghams National Ice Arena at the begining of April for the Playoff Finals Weekend.
