The Belfast Giants have today named the captain and alternates for the forthcoming season. Following a team vote, Veteran defenseman Jeremy Rebek was named as the successor to Colin Shields as Giants Captain.
Rebek, a vastly experienced player who has captained teams across Europe and at international level, was an almost unanimous selection, and he took time to thank the fans by way of his twitter feed @TheRebutation:
Thanks to everyone for the support. Its going to be a great year!!!!
Adam Keefe, who like Rebek opened his account with goals against the Nottingham Panthers over the weekend, was named Alternate Captain alongside Nick Kuiper.
Keefe, also a regular on the social network Twitter, @Adam27Keefe pledged his support for his captain and team;
Thanks for all the congrats guys. Honoured to support @TheRebutation and the @BelfastGiants. Will be a good year. #thisistheyear
The letters will adorn the shirts of Rebek, Keefe and Kuiper this Saturday night as the Giants open the 2011/12 Elite League season at home to last terms champions, the Sheffield Steelers
