Phoenix look to spoil the party
18-Jan-2008 | Discuss this ArticleThe Giants bandwagon continues to roll on at an incredible rate, picking up two points after two points game in and game out. With Manchester coming into town on Saturday night and with the current form the Giants are in you would expect 11 in a row to become 12, but before people scream SCUD at me writing that... I don't believe this game can be taken as a foregone conclusion, not for one minute. Not if form is anything to go by.
The Phoenix have been in win-one-lose-one form over the last ten games going 5-5 and currently they sit 6th in the league, comfortably in the playoff picture but well back on 5th place Cardiff. So far this season the two sides have met three times, once in the Odyssey, once in Dundalk and once in Manchester with the Giants winning one and Manchester two. Manchester has outscored the Giants 13-8 in the three contests.
For those interested in the all-time head-to-head between the two sides: They have met 21 times with the Giants winning just 8 to the Phoenix's 11. One has ended in an OT defeat to the Giants another was a tie. There have been 5 fighting majors between the two sides.
So the Giants will be looking to settle a score. Face-off at the Odyssey is at 7 p.m.

* Steelers this week released third line enforcer Jeremy Cornish - the first casualty of an entire Steelers roster on two weeks notice - and replaced him with ex-Steelers star Dan Tessier.
* Newcastle has added depth to their roster by signing Cory Morgan.
* The Giants game from Wednesday night against Newcastle will be on Sky Sports tonight. The game will be shown in full but the third period will be especially worth watching.
