Perfect Pete.

Let’s get down to the bone here. Prior to Pete Campbell’s arrival the Giants record through 11 league games was 3-8. In the seven league games since arriving in Belfast from Basingstoke we have gone 6-1 . . . A complete reversal in form. Now other guys like Shaun Sutter, Shane Johnson and particularly Stevie Lyle all arrived around the same time as Pete when the teams fortunes changed but individually Campbell has been a revelation to the up turn in our form. He has scored seven goals and eight assists in seven league games - 9+9 in 9 games including the challenge cup and he has points in all but one of the seven league and two challenge cup games.

While the others have added the strength and depth to the line-up we so badly missed through the first eleven games its Pete Campbell who on a line with set-up man Ed Courtenay has provided the kick to send us up the league standings. Even Carlyle Lewis who since on a line with the duo has hit some serious form.

The Bison's loss of Campbell, through what appears to have been financial miss-management, appears to have been the Giants' gain and Campbell has settled quickly in his new surroundings. It was salt into the wounds of the falling-fast Bison when Campbell played them in his first game as a Giant, scoring two goals and two assists.

If Campbell keeps anywhere near this sort of pace it will be a joy to watch for the rest of the season but holding onto him for another year when European scouts linger may prove to be more challenging than an opposing nettie holding one of his wrist shots.

Below is a look at Pete Campbell's game by game stats so far this season. It includes both League and Challenge Cup games.

Shorts . . .

  • Sunday nights win against Newcastle was the 250th game as a Giant for Leigh Jamieson
  • This Saturday’s game against Hull will be the 250th game as a Giant for Mark Morrison
  • Todd Kelman's haul of penalty minutes last Thursday night against Cardiff for ten minute, game and match misconducts moved him into third in all-time Giants penalty minutes with 496 ahead of fellow Giant Shane Johnson on 491. With Todd set to step aside upon Trevor Johnson's return Shane should retake that third place. Neither will go close to Paxton Schulte's leading 975.For the record Jason Bowen is second with 627 and current team Captain George Awada fifth with 436.
  • Captain George Awada is just 53 points shy of tying Jason Ruff's lead for points all-time. With 36 league games and at least 2 playoff games remaining Awada will need to go on quite the tear (1.40 points per game) to tie the record this season. Unlikely. Awada is however just 6 goals shy from tying Ruff's all-time team lead of 100. Will he pass that this season? Likely.
