The Coors Belfast Giants tonight face a tough test in the form of the Coventry Blaze at the Odyssey Arena. The Giants are without 4 imports with Mark Dutiaume joining Cameron, Johnson and Gavalier on the sidelines, while young brit Paul Moran is also ruled out of the action due to a dislocated shoulder
The Coventry Blaze make their first visit to the Odyssey with former Giants forward Curtis Huppe in their ranks. Huppe has scored 20 points in 15 league games for the Coventry Blaze and was a key part of their October Continental Cup trip to Denmark. While in the Giants camp, Peter Campbell will tonight be looking to score his 5th goal in four games. Campbell has been playing at a 2.00 ppg average since arriving in Belfast from the troubled Bison and he may prove key in the forward lines as the Giants try to fight a strong and fully fit Blaze squad.
Tonights Odyssey ice will also be graced by the two current top scorers in the EIHL, Player/Coach Ed Courtenay has 27 points from 16 games while Coventry forward Adam Calder is topping the table with 28 points in 15 games.
Games between these two sides are always feisty, and tonights has the added spice of the Giants looking to upset the Blaze's quest for the Challenge Cup. Belfast, having had a poor start to the season, are eliminated from the Cup, however the Blaze will need to beat the Giants by 2 goals to progress and given the Giants recent turn of form, they would love nothing more than to spoil the party.
