The Coors Belfast Giants today confirmed the signing of Carlyle Lewis for the upcoming season.
Lewis, a 29 year old native of Middleton, Nova Scotia, comes to Belfast from HC Bolzano in Italy having spent 7 years in the North American Minor Leagues.
He has posted a fair amount of points across his professional career however at over 6 foot and weighing in at around 230 pounds, Lewis has a reputation for racking up more pims than points - and that appears to be one of the main reasons for his signing. The Coors Giants have sorely missed having a player capable of putting points up regularly whilst being equally capable of enforcing at the same time. Many fans will no doubt hold up Giant's legend Paxton Schulte as a measuring post for any such role player for years to come.
Fans will probably use this signing as a point to debate the return of Shawn Skiehar - the man given the role (on paper at least) of enforcing for the Giants over the last two years - does Lewis' signing see the exit door open for Ski?
So the brisk off season contines, if we keep going like this, won't the first few weeks of September be unusually dull?
