The Coors Belfast Giants General Manager Todd Kelman announced yesterday that Ed Courtenay has agreed to coach the Coors Belfast Giants for the upcoming 2007/08 season.
This will be Courtenay's third season in charge of the Giants, having lead the team to a league championship, a runners up spot and two playoff semis.
Having played himself in place of Curtis Huppe in the final 16 games of last season and racking up an impressive 24 points, Courtenay will again take to the ice this season, reprising his player/coach role of 2005/2006
GM of the Giants, Todd Kelman had this to say about the appointment, “Ed has proven over the last two seasons that he has the ability and the skill to lead this team both on and off the ice. He is a valuable coach and as a player/coach he is even more valuable. Last season it was difficult at times when I knew that probably our best offensive player was standing behind the bench and I wanted to have him back as a player/coach because of what he brings to this team in both roles. We had a great working relationship last season and I look forward to another year of working with Ed and trying to build another championship team. Now that we have our coach in place, we will be following up with some player signings shortly.”
