He Walks On (Frozen) Water

29-May-2006 | Discuss this Article

Today, Coors Giants Head Coach Ed Courtenay confirmed that the Team's second signing for 2006-2007 is Jason Ruff.

No stranger to the Coors Giants roster, Jason has iced in 3 previous seasons amassing 177 points in just 134 games.

On returning to Belfast for a 3rd time last year, and after a good start to that season, Jason left the team just after Christmas with a bad groin injury, which turned out to be a hernia, and returned home to take up a coaching role with his hometown junior team Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Some argue that the Giants werent quite the same after his departure and the race for the league title became intense with competitors gaining ground whilst Belfast lacked the dominance they exhibited with "Ruffles" involved.

If reports are to be believed, Jason chose a fourth term with the Coors Giants having turned down offers from Newcastle, Sheffield and Basingstoke - whether substantiated or not, for certain any Elite league side would be happy to boast Jason as one of their number.

Widely regarded as a major locker room presence and an excellent two-way player, stat fans will no doubt be keen to see the man widely regarded as the Coors Giants finest player get a shot at becoming the franchise points leader, needing just 11 points to secure that position.

Ruff himself is glad to be back, and showing he still has the winning mentality stating “I’m excited about working with Ed Courtenay again and believe we can put together another League winning team, at the very least.”

Here's hoping Jason returns fully healed and ready to fulfil that belief - he has proven a miracle-maker on the ice before, lets hope his recovery has been just as successful.
