The Coors Belfast Giants welcomed Jason Bowen back to the lineup after an injury scare and were pleased to see Theo Fleury icing after a potential injury problem for the tricky trip to Cardiff.
The Cardiff Devils have posed the Giants problems this season, being the first team to pick up a win in the Odyssey in Overtime way back in October and taking points in all but one other fixture. Add to this their recent resurgence after a poor run and a Challenge Cup win and it made the trip to the WNIR far from easy.
Fortunately, the Giants came out flying and took the lead early to settle any possible nerves, player coach Ed Courtenay weighing in with what would be the eventual game winning goal after just 1.03 of the first period.
The lead was doubled when Theo Fleury made it 21 goals on the season and 2 points on the night as he fired the puck past the impressive Peter Aubry in the Devil's goal at 16.40, a much needed assist going to Colin Shields with Curtis Huppe picking up the other
Midway through the second period, fan favourite Shawn Skiehar converted for his 10th goal of the season in the Teal, White and Red at 28.10 pulling the Giants 3 goals ahead with Colin Shields once again involved along with Coach Courtenay.
Try as they might however, the Cardiff Devils just couldn't find a way past Mike Minard who picked up another impressive shutout, making 25 saves in a man of the match performance.
