Tony Hand has gone back to his mam in Edinburgh, Curt Bowen has packed up his mirror and is checking out the nearest airport to Sheffield. Mel Angelstad has found a new hay supplier in the north east. Fredrick Nasvall is off yodelling somewhere even though he is Swedish, Diarmuid Kelly was last seen heading off into the sunset, maybe tomorrow he’ll wanna settle down, until tomorrow… Roman is rowing his boat to Poland, and wee Marty Klempa is borrowing some chav’s pads in Coventry.
But it’s not all bad news. Jason Ruff is keeping up the tradition of playing in Belfast every other year, Ed Courtenay is making sure the other tradition of Belfast being coached by some dude that played for Ayr and Sheffield isn’t broken. Steve O'Brien decided we couldn’t have only one American on the team, Shawn Skiehar has arrived to break spell checking software and hopefully some faces. Mike Minard realised that Belfast needs another nice guy off the ice, Matt Reid has popped over from South Carolina for a quick tour of the elite league arenas. Oh and some guy called Theo Fleury says he might be visiting from October onwards, but no-one is sure yet.
That’s right folks, hockey is back. This Friday night sees the first game of the EIHL 2005/2006 season with the visit of Newcastle Vipers to the big O. This will be Newcastle’s first game in the elite league, and Belfast fans are expecting them to make a big entrance. With former Giants, Mel Angelstad and Paul Ferone alongside last seasons PiM leader, Andre Payette, in their team, one thing is for certain, Newcastle will make an impact. Let’s hope that the Giants can break the other other tradition and register a home win this Friday.
See you in the Odyssey!
