It was practice with a twist at the SSE Arena this morning, as the Belfast Giants took some time out of their pre-season preparations to provide a special experience for another group of Teal warriors.
Belfast Giants Merchandise Manager and the Queen of Kukri Laura ‘Smallsy’ Small had planned a big surprise for the young fans and their parents upon their arrival- specially equipped sport wheelchairs (courtesy of Lisburn & Castlereagh Council’s Sports Development team), a clean sheet of ice and some Giant opposition!
One such young person who took to the ice with his heroes was Ethan McClean, whose Dad Andy talked about what the Giants mean to his family, adding that that today was just an example of the constant work that ‘Smallsy’ does throughout hockey season and beyond- whilst doing her very best to avoid any kind of recognition or praise!
Giants Defenseman Curtis Leonard definitely enjoyed spending some time with his new team-mates:
And young fan Dylan Caughey seemed to take it all in stride, telling AVFTB that he has a top secret elite hockey coach on speed dial!
The Giants continue preparations to face the visting Manitoba Bisons this Saturday and Sunday, but this morning- before a competitive puck has even been dropped- it was all about giving back to a deserving group of young people who love their team.
As if we’d expect anything different.
