For the first time in the history of the Giants organisation, a game has had to be abandoned during play. And it happened at the Odyssey, not at the Dundonald Ice Bowl with its allegedly awful ice surface!
With just over 3 minutes of play left in the second period, the ref told both teams to head to the dressing rooms for an early period break after a massive chunk of ice shifted just in front of the away goalies crease causing a large divot, along with several other smaller yet deep holes. After fifteen minutes of non-stop working at the ice, the players came out and had another shot at finishing the period, but as the clock ran down and Giants goaltender Stephen Murphy iced the puck with only 2.2 seconds left, the Ref once again called a halt to proceedings.
